Hedlund Painting repainted the interior of a modern home in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood, refreshing the dining room, entry hall, stairwell, and adjoining living spaces. We rolled clean, warm-white walls and ceilings and cut precise lines around the black stair rail, large window casings, and built-in display cabinetry to set off the home's bold art and color accents. The challenge
This is a design-forward modern interior where the paint has to be the quiet backdrop to loud focal points: a glossy cobalt-blue accent cabinet, framed landscape art, a colorful area rug, and an open black-railed staircase. White walls in that setting expose every flaw, so the surfaces had to read flat and even across the open dining-to-entry sightline. The work needed tight cut lines against the black stair stringer and handrail, around the tall window casings and the white built-in display cabinet, and clean transitions where one room opens into the next, all without a drop of paint on the finished floors, rug, or statement cabinetry.

What we did
- Walk and protect. We walked the connected rooms with the customer, then masked and covered the floors, the blue accent cabinet, the built-in display unit, and the stair components.
- Surface prep. We patched, sanded, and spot-primed walls and trim so the white finish would sit smooth under the bright natural light from the dining windows. Sanding and primer per surface are steps competitors often cut, and they are why a white repaint reads clean rather than patchy.
- Paint and finish. We rolled walls and ceilings for even, flat coverage and hand-cut crisp lines along the black stair rail, window casings, and cabinetry edges.
- Cleanup and final walkthrough. We secured the space each day, walked it with the crew for touch-ups, then walked it with the customer for final sign-off.
The result
A clean, light, gallery-style interior that lets the home's color and art carry the room. Warm-white walls and ceilings read seamless from the dining area through the entry hall, framing the wood dining table, gray chairs, and the cobalt accent cabinet without competing with them. Cut lines along the black staircase and around the tall window casings are sharp and shadow-clean, and the white built-in display cabinet pops against the fresh wall behind it. The finish is even and flat, with no roller marks, and floors and furnishings came through clean.
