Exterior Repaint, Seattle Shingle Craftsman
A three-story shingle-style craftsman repainted with the prep an older cedar exterior demands, recoated in soft greige with bright white trim, gables, and entry for that classic shingle-style contrast.
Hedlund Painting repainted the exterior of a three-story shingle-style craftsman home in Seattle, WA. We washed and prepped the cedar-shingle siding, recoated the body in a soft greige, and finished the window trim, gables, and entry surround in clean white, refreshing the home's curb appeal while protecting the siding against Seattle's wet climate, all backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty.
The challenge
This is a tall, three-story shingle-style home on a tight Seattle lot, with a lot of vertical surface and detail to cover: shingle siding across multiple stories, deep gable peaks, banks of windows, and a recessed shingled entry. Shingle siding has heavy texture and many edges, so coverage has to be complete into every shingle butt and reveal without filling the lines or leaving holidays. The height meant safe, controlled access across all three levels, and the Seattle climate meant prep and product had to seal and protect the cedar shingles. The window trim, gables, and entry needed crisp white lines that hold against the soft body color for that classic craftsman contrast.

What we did
- Walk and wash. Our superintendent walked the elevation with the customer, then we pressure-washed the shingle siding and trim to clear dirt, mildew, and chalking.
- Protect and prep. We masked the windows, the stone base, and landscaping, then scraped, sanded, and spot-primed bare or weathered shingles and trim so the new coats bonded and laid even. That prep and primer step is what makes a shingle repaint last through Seattle weather.
- Paint and finish. We recoated the shingle body in soft greige with full coverage into the shingle texture, then cut and coated the window trim, gables, and entry surround in clean white.
- Cleanup and final walkthrough. We secured gear and the site each day, walked the property with the crew for touch-ups, then walked it with the customer for final approval.
The result
A crisp, refreshed craftsman exterior with strong curb appeal across all three stories. The soft greige shingle body reads even and fully covered, texture intact, from the gable peaks down to the garage level, and the bright white window trim, gable detailing, and recessed entry pop cleanly against it for that classic shingle-style contrast. The existing river-rock stone base sits clean against the new finish, and the entry porch reads sharp and welcoming. The home looks freshly maintained and protected against the Seattle weather.
